Passage 4: Supreme Court of India ===TheSupremeCourtofIndiaisthehighestcourtintheIndianjudicialsystem.ItoccupiesanimportantpositionintheconstitutionalstructureofthecountryandperformsseveralfunctionsrelatingtotheinterpretationandprotectionoftheConstitution.TheSupremeCourtwasestablishedundertheConstitutionofIndiaandcameintoexistenceon28January1950,shortlyaftertheConstitutioncameintoforce.ItsucceededtheFederalCourtofIndia,whichhadfunctionedduringtheperiodbeforetheConstitutionbecameeffective.
